Meditation is a practice of prolonged state of concentration to bring forth new ideas, creativity and deep spiritual experiences. In simple words, meditation is about working with the energy inside of you.
Reiki which is pronounced 'ray-key,' translates into 'Universal Energy' and is a form of healing, which allows the body to heal itself. In the early part of the 20th Century the founder Mikao Usui attained the knowledge to heal the self and others by the use of his hands. Usui had an open mind and studied many other religions, by doing so he concluded that healing was meant for everyone, hence why Reiki is accessible to everyone and has no religious attachments.
Reiki is a non-invasive treatment and has no limits. Treatments can be given too young babies with complications; teen's going through adolescence and even adults who suffer from the traumas of day to day life. An example of some of the symptoms Reiki has helped people with are, pain relief, back problems, anxiety, headaches, stomach upsets, sinus problems, blood pressure and asthma.
Reiki works along side conventional medicine and complimentary therapies, it benefit's the stresses within the body, thereby allowing the body to direct itself to a state of inner peace. All diseases and ailments can be treated with the use of Reiki, by ways of balancing the energies in the body and strengthening the immune system.
A consultation of the client's lifestyle will be taken to begin with, which allows the practitioner to identify why the client has come for a treatment.
This gives a better understanding of their current health and if any medication is being taken. All information given will be held with the strictest of confidence and will not be discussed with anyone without the clients permission.
An explanation will be given on how the treatment will be carried out and the opportunity to ask any questions.
The client will be asked to remove their shoes and lie onto a couch (recommended) if they choose not to lie down or have difficulties doing so, they can opt to stay seated in a chair, thereby making the treatment accessible to all. They will be covered with a blanket and asked to close their eyes so that the experience can be benefited in its entirety.
The practitioner will channel the energy, which passes through their hands into the body of the client. The practitioner will place their hands on the energy points on the body, and just above it at times. It is then that the client's body will decide where the energy will be directed to. Whilst the energy is directed into the client, they may feel burst's of heat or cold, which is very soothing and induces a state of relaxation.
At the end of the treatment the client will be offered some water and the practitioner will discuss how the treatment went, which will also give the client an opportunity to ask any questions.
After the treatment I would always encourage people to drink plenty of water and avoid alcohol.
The experience is different for every individual, but the general consensus is that it provides a feeling of relaxation and wellbeing. Often people will feel warmth or cold energy from the practitioner's hands and if there is no feeling of either of these, it's okay, the energy will still work. During the treatment people may feel emotions rising to the surface, which is related to the energy clearing any blockages out that could be related to past or recent circumstances. The healing starts the process of relaxation, which can lead to finding the answers to problems that they are facing.
The overall and most important side effect is the sensation of feeling extremely relaxed and at one with yourself. As mentioned above, some people may experience a healing reaction, but again this is nothing to worry about and will be short-lived. Whatever the experience is it will always have a positive effect.
Generally people feel relaxed after the treatment and will continue to do so for several hours, others may be full of renewed energy. It is also known for a healing reaction to occur, which could be in the form of a tiredness, cold's or even an emotional release, which will be short lived. This is nothing to be worried about, it's just your body's way of releasing any stale energy and unwanted toxins.
